In this paper, an efficient pseudo-optimal design method for binary sequences with low sidelobe level is proposed, focusing on ship detection and its discrimination from decoy targets. One of the major challenges in radar systems is the simultaneous presence of ship and decoy together, which may hide the ship’s signal and complicate the detection process. In such a situation, accurate ship-to-decoy discrimination becomes particularly important. The proposed approach is based on the logarithm of the sum and a recursive algorithm to calculate the correlation function, which significantly reduces the computational complexity compared to conventional methods. In addition, a two-stage search method is used to enhance local convergence and avoid getting trapped in local minima. Simulation results show that the proposed pseudo-optimal code with length 169 has approximately 6 dB reduction in sidelobe level compared to the Nested code and also performs better in ship and decoy separation at low signal-to-noise ratio.These results indicate improved performance of pseudo-optimal codes in reducing interference and increasing target detection power.
